Vocational Education at Two Sessions

In March, the First Session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee and the First Session of the 12th National People’s Congress were held in Beijing respectively. As a hot topic concerning livelihood, vocational education received heated concerns.

“Implement free tuition policies for secondary vocational education and broaden its coverage to students from rural areas, agriculture-related students and those from poverty-stricken families.” “Quicken the construction of basic capabilities of vocational education and infrastructure of special education.” “Speed up the development of modern vocational education.” In the yearly report on government work of 2013, the vocational education was mentioned for three times. Reviewing the government’s working reports for the past ten years, we can easily find that vocational education as key words have been mentioned for 28 times. Mr. Ge Daokai, Director of the Department of Vocational and Adult Education of MoE, introduced that from 2011 to the present the Ministry of Education has received 187 proposals on vocational education. Those proposals focused on priorities, difficulties and hot issues in the development of vocational education, offering suggestions to the government.(Annex
