Curriculum Reform of Secondary Vocational Schools in China since the New Century: Achievements, Problems and Trends

Abstract: Since the beginning of the new century, the curriculum reform in secondary vocational schools in China has achieved the following accomplishments: the deepening and breakthrough on the essence of curriculum, paying more attention to the construction of curriculum standards, establishing a comprehensive employment-oriented vocational ability curriculum objectives, taking working process as the logic of curriculum content organization, forming a diversified curriculum development model, formulating policies to promote quality of curriculum. However, there are still some problems to be solved: urgent attention needed by the intrinsic value of curriculum objective, course contents lagging behind production technology, curriculum structure system should be optimized, unprepared teachers in curriculum implementation, enterprises’ participation in curriculum is inadequate, and insufficient attention being paid to curriculum evaluation. The trends of the secondary vocational education curriculum reform are to formulate curriculum standards contacting national vocational standards, adhere to the integral moral of the curriculum objective, build a complete system of curriculum, optimize the curriculum implementation conditions, highlight the professional course characteristics through school-based curriculum development, and improve the curriculum quality appraisal mechanism.
